Million £££ works!Anthony Steen opens Stoke Fleming’s new waste water treatment works.
The Right Honourable Anthony Steen, MP for Totnes, opened Stoke Fleming's brand new £3 million waste water treatment works at midday on Wednesday, 28th September.
South West Water recently completed the scheme at Stoke Fleming, which will provide sewage treatment to the village for the first time and will ensure local bathing waters meet the requirements of the European Urban Waste Water Directive. Mr Steen was generous in his praise for South West Water, for the scheme in particular and the virtually complete £2 billion 'Clean Sweep' programme, which is enabling the whole of the West Country to boast some of the finest bathing waters and beaches in the region. Mr Steen also praised the co-operation between the water company, the local Council, members of the public and South West Water's contractors, saying it was a victory for co-operation and common sense, which will enhance even more, the village which is perched in an area of outstanding natural beauty, overlooking the cliffs at Start Bay. Mr Andy Dawe, one of South West Water's Senior Programme Managers, said; "It was a pleasure to work with the local Council and local residents and we were happy to take on board many of the suggestions made by the residents of Stoke Fleming. – ENDS – For more information contact Hilary Weatherley, Corporate Communications Manager, on 01392 443021.
