70,000 people in Plymouth are treated to better water this Christmas, as South West Water finish work on Mutley Plain

As you read this, all over Plymouth people are turning on their taps and pouring themselves a glass of water. Most will not even give a thought to where that water comes from, or the quality of the pipes that deliver it. What the people of Plymouth will be noticing, is how much fresher their water tastes and clearer it looks!

This improvement in water quality is largely due to the massive engineering project that has been taking place in Mutley Plain since June, where South West Water engineers have been relining two 24" cast iron trunk mains and a 9" cast iron distribution main.

This essential maintenance work is part of South West Water's multi million pound scheme designed to 'Put the Sparkle Back' into drinking water all over the South West. The Company are delighted that such a massive investment in Plymouth's water quality has gone so smoothly and has been finished on schedule, without any interruption to water supply and with minimal disruption to businesses and traffic.

The work, which cost approximately £1.23 million, will guarantee cleaner water for around 70,000 people in the City of Plymouth and reduce the risk of future bursts and disruptions. South West Water is keen to highlight the success of this particular scheme, so that the Company can praise the hard work of its engineers and give full credit to local businesses and customers, whose cooperation helped to ensure complete success.

No doubt everyone will be incredibly happy to see that South West Water has left this popular shopping area in time for the Christmas rush and all advanced warning signs have now been taken down on all routes into Mutley Plain! Of course it won't be long before the people of Plymouth stop noticing the remarkably fresh and clean taste to their tap water but that will only be because better water quality will soon become something we can all take for granted.
