Water company achieves ISO standardSouth West Water has achieved ISO 9001:2000 accreditation by implementing a quality management system for effectively providing the region's water supplies.
This ISO accredited system of best practice procedures is designed to assure our customers and regulators that South West Water is a well run business. ![]() Water company achieves ISO standard The new system has upgraded existing procedures and will ensure drinking water standards are continually improved. The entire process of collecting, treating and distributing a quality water supply will be covered to ensure all tasks are carried out competently, accurately and by staff with the appropriate training, qualifications and experience. Setting up the ISO accredited system involved updating procedures for water treatment and distribution, customer service, engineering, maintenance, scientific analyses, procurement and training. These approved procedures are published as employee guidelines on the company's intranet site and are regularly audited. South West Water is one of the only water companies to use the ISO standard for such a variety of tasks. Twenty staff from key areas of the business worked on the two year project. All employees will now benefit from these newly accessible working methods. "The Drinking Water Inspectorate congratulates South West Water on achieving the accreditation," said Kevin White, DWI Inspector. "The ISO standard shows that the company is committed to the continual improvement of drinking water standards while addressing the needs of customers". "We are confident that the ISO Quality Management System will provide an effective way to reinforce business objectives through the company which can be continually improved to safeguard service and supply," said Bob Baty, South West Water's Chief Executive. "The ISO standard will enable employees to develop best practice procedures and contribute towards an effective team effort". - ENDS - For further information please contact Dina Chandler, Communications Officer on 01392 443021 or visit the South West Water website www.southwestwater.co.uk/ISO Published: June 2003 |
