Surfers celebrate clean coastline

South West Water's new schools literature is launched today on Green Week Water Day and United Nations World Environment Day to help children learn about the importance of water and the environment.

European Union Green Week aims to encourage change in environmental behaviour. The UN's theme for today is 'Water - two billion people are dying for it".

South West Water is joining water businesses across Europe in supporting Green Week to highlight how prosperity depends on a healthy environment by launching the first part of a new series of primary school literature on the water environment and its importance.

The brightly coloured literature is illustrated with cartoon style characters to capture the imagination and inspire youngsters to gain knowledge in National Curriculum subjects such as geography and science.

Water is an important part of the school curriculum and it is hoped that South West Water's A1 poster demonstrating the water cycle and treatment processes will provide teachers with a handy teaching aid. The matching fold out leaflet is designed as a useful water facts guide for homework tasks.

"We are delighted to be able to support education in communities around the region while highlighting the importance of water in everyday life," said Bob Baty, South West Water's Chief Executive. "South West Water hopes to help schools have easy access to the resources needed to meet educational requirements".

A copy of the latest school's literature can be obtained by contacting the South West Water press office on 01392 443013 or alternatively by e-mailing pressoffice@southwestwater.co.uk
