Two new water directors
South West Water has appointed two new Directors. Monica Read has been promoted to Customer Service Director and Richard Hughes has been appointed Regulatory and Finance Director.
Monica's new role involves ensuring customer policies and practices are designed to help customers and improve the levels of service offered by South West Water. She also oversees collection of the required income to fund vital water and sewage services.
After joining the Company in 1992 as a Business Manager in Operations Monica progressed through a broad range of management roles before joining Customer Service to set up the commercial department in 2000. She was appointed Customer Service Director in September, following the retirement of her predecessor Peter Briens.
Monica has a degree in Environmental Science and is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants. She gained her customer service experience during her earlier career in operations, while learning about the water and sewage business.
Monica enjoys the great variety of her job, which involves everything from strategic decision making to resolving a specific customer problem. She says " I am energetic and committed to a company of which I am very proud".
Camping and swimming are some of family activities which Monica enjoys with her three children. She likes her family to make the most of what the westcountry environment has to offer.

Richard's new role makes him responsible for managing the Company's finances and preparing a successful business strategy, budgets and forecasts which will ensure funding for essential environmental improvements. He also directs the Company's relationship with the Office of Water Services (OFWAT) the industry's financial regulator.
In 1993 Richard joined South West Water's parent company as Group Auditor, subsequently taking on the role of Strategic Planning Manager. Richard was made Regulatory and Finance Director in July 2002. He has a politics and economics degree from Oxford University and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Richard uses his company knowledge to find straightforward answers to complex situations. He says "I strive to find simple solutions by asking the right questions".
When he is not producing financial information or driving regulatory compliance, you may find Richard singing in the Exeter Philharmonic Choir or playing cricket for the Dartmoor village where he has lived for many years.
With their skills and experience Monica and Richard are sure to be an asset to the Company and ensure South West Water's future progress.
