Ainsley Harriott asks you to cook up a birthday celebration

South West Water is inviting all local people to attend a charity birthday barbecue and help WaterAid celebrate 21 years of working to help the world’s poorest people. The barbecue will be held at Whitestone Village Hall on Sunday 21st July from 12.30pm.

A voluntary donation for the barbecue will raise vital funds for the work of WaterAid, the charity which provides safe water and sanitation in Africa and Asia.

Ainsley Harriott, who has published his own Barbecue Bible says: "Lack of water and sanitation causes one child to die every 15 seconds in the developing world. You can really make a difference to someone's life by helping to raise money at the barbecue."

It is women and children who suffer the most through the lack of safe water in Africa and Asia. They have to walk up to 22 km a day to fetch water from rivers and muddy holes, knowing that the water they bring back may well bring disease to their families.

This sounds like a huge problem and it is. Yet it is easy to make an enormous difference simply by attending a fun event: it costs less than £15 to provide a person with safe water and sanitation for life.
