Go ahead for Croyde ‘Clean Sweep’

Croyde in North Devon is to benefit from South West Water’s latest coastal sewage treatment clean up scheme following a meeting of Devon County Council Planning Committee today.

Plans are now underway to provide the beautiful coastal area, renowned for its great surfing waters, with a modern sewage treatment system including ultraviolet treatment.

Work on the £5 million project is planned to begin in the next few months and be completed by the end of next year.

Andy Dawe, South West Water's Programme Leader, said: "This is excellent news for Croyde. The scheme will greatly improve the quality of local bathing waters for the benefit of people who live in the area and visitors, giving a further boost to the local economy".

The Croyde scheme is the latest in the company's £1 billion coastal sewage treatment programme which is contributing to record bathing water quality results for the region.
