Major burst water main

South West Water are battling to keep customers’ water supplies running following a major burst on a water main at Roadford Lake in mid Devon.

The water main burst on Saturday 10 November and since then a team of engineers and other staff have been working round the clock to solve the problem.

Peter Briens, Customer Service Director, said today "The 900mm water main has burst in a location where it is going to be very difficult to repair, but engineers are on site to carry out excavations and mend the pipe."

He continued "The water main carries raw water from Roadford Lake to our treatment works at Northcombe, near Okehampton, and that serves customers in a wide area from Ilfracombe in the north to Okehampton in the south, Holsworthy in the west and South Molton in the east. I would like to ask all customers in that area to only use water if it is essential to do so. Their help will assist in conserving supplies whilst we repair the main. I should like to thank everyone in advance for their help."
