Work starts on sewer upgrade in Bishop Tawton
12th June 2020
A scheme to replace a section of sewer in Bishop Tawton to increase resilience and improve the service to residents and businesses will start next week.
The project involves replacing almost 600 metres of sewer along Bishop Tawton Road and Old Exeter Road to reduce the risk of sewer flooding recurring.
This essential work will begin on Monday 15 June 2020 and is expected to be completed this autumn. The working hours will be from 7am to 7pm, Monday to Friday, with the potential for some work to take place on weekends.
Victoria Hutchins, South West Water Project Manager, said: “To undertake this work and to ensure the health and safety of the public and our workers, we will require the use of two-way traffic lights which will be in place at all times.
“These traffic lights will be used in two phases. The first phase will be along Bishop Tawton Road from Monday 15 June 2020 until Thursday 23 July 2020.
“The second phase will be along Old Exeter Road from Friday 24 July 2020 and will remain in place for the duration of the work.
“There will be the need to work outside Bishop Tawton Primary School but this section has been planned for the summer holidays to minimise disruption.
“As an essential service provider, looking after our customers and employees is our top priority and we will continue to follow Government and NHS advice surrounding Coronavirus to make sure safety is paramount.”
