Improvement work continues in Westward Ho!
30th January 2014
A £100,000 scheme to improve Westward Ho's sewer network will restart next week.
South West Water and its H5O partners started work to install 150m of new sewer in Nelson Road on Monday 6 January 2014 to prevent sewer flooding in the local area.
However, due to unforeseen engineering problems, work stopped and the road reopened on 16 January. The scheme has now been redesigned and work starts again next week.
Nelson Road will be closed from the junction of Youngaton Road to Nelson Drive from Monday 3 February 2014 for approximately four weeks. Pedestrian access for residents and businesses will be maintained during the works.
Part of Nelson Road will become two-way with access from Atlantic Way for residents' vehicles only.
Project manager Andy Young said: "We're sorry that we weren't able to complete the work earlier this month due to encountering some unforeseen problems relating to the location of underground utilities.
"We have had to redesign the scheme to take this into account, but we're pleased to have been able to do that and get back on site as quickly as possible.
"We will do our best to keep disruption to a minimum and complete the work as soon as possible."
Diversion routes will be clearly signed. All emergency services and other service providers have been informed.
