During a visit to St Leonard’s, Susan Davy spoke with Gavin Lincoln about the science that underpins wastewater treatment and the crucial role laboratory testing plays in protecting public health and the environment.
Gavin talked Susan through the range of lab work carried out on site, including routine sampling, analysis and monitoring to ensure treatment processes are performing as they should. This data helps teams understand what’s coming into the works and how effectively it’s being treated.
He also explained the natural biological processes used in wastewater treatment, where carefully managed microorganisms break down waste in a controlled way. Susan highlighted how this combination of scientific expertise, natural processes and constant monitoring is central to improving water quality.
