A group of young rugby players have joined the Exeter Chiefs for an educational experience in collaboration with Pennon’s Water Futures programme in the run up to World Water Day.

Twenty rugby fans enjoyed a day of interactive learning with the Pennon team, before meeting their sporting heroes, Harvey Skinner, Joseph Dweba, Martin Moloney, Charlie Chapman and Josh Hodge.

After sharing what they had learnt with the players, they put the sports starts to the test during a quick-fire quiz.

World Water Day, held on 22 March has a focus this year on the importance of fresh water and the sustainable management of fresh water resources.

Jeremy, Deputy Head a Cornerstone Trust school, said: “We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Pennon and The Exeter Chiefs for providing such a fantastic and memorable opportunity to learn about the water cycle with the players.

Through their engaging sessions, we have gained valuable insights into how water travels through nature, the crucial role it plays in our daily lives and the importance of caring for this precious resource.

Spending time with the Exeter Chiefs also gave the children a unique look into the world of professional sport. Their passion, discipline, and camaraderie are truly inspiring, and have taught the children lessons that go far beyond science, encouraging us to strive for excellence in everything we do."

Exeter Chiefs, Charlie Chapman, said: "We want to thank Pennon for such an interesting and fun day of learning. We all learnt a lot about the water cycle that we hadn’t known before, and the children who presented for us were so clear and well informed. It was a great day to be part of.”

Katy Ringsdore, Director of External Relations at Pennon, said: “Water connects everything we do and by bringing students, teachers and sport together we’re helping young people to get curious about how the water cycle supports everyday life, from the classroom to the playing field.

We are really proud of this partnership and how it may help children to really understand the importance of water resources while strengthening connections across the community.  We hope this experience and all they have learnt will live in their memories for a very long time.”
