A care home in Cullompton is saving around 6,000 litres of water every day after a water efficiency visit from South West Water uncovered hidden internal leaks.
The visit involves water efficiency experts installing water saving devices then identifying, and where possible repairing, internal plumbing losses to help reduce usage across businesses.
Culm Valley Care Home arranged a visit from South West Water last month, and had 43 water-saving devices installed across the site.There were also a few leaks found and fixed during the visit.
As a result, the care home has significantly reduced its daily water usage and delivered substantial water savings to support its wider sustainability goals.
Culm Valley Care Home provides a comfortable residential space for the elderly and disabled. They offer a range of care options for long and short-term residential and nursing services for up to 61 elderly people, with nurses on duty 24 hours a day and a great range of facilities on offer.
Megan Williams, Water Efficiency Delivery Manager for South West Water said: “This is a good example of how a site with high daily water use can achieve significant savings through relatively simple interventions.
“We are proud to have worked with the care home to install the water saving devices and they will now save an impressive 130,000 litres of water a month.”
This move follows a programme of water efficiency visits by South West Water, to enable businesses to look at how they can save water and reduce their bills.
Ann Bright, Manager for Culm Valley Care Home added: “We are always looking at ways to reduce our carbon footprint and work collaboratively with other services.
“When South West Water offered this service, especially with the hosepipe ban in the area, we thought it would be helpful to us to support with conserving water, the upside to this will hopefully be a reduction in the water bill.
“It has also been a topic of conversation with the residents asking if they remember having ever been in hosepipe bans in the past. Some of the residents did remember and we spent some time reminiscing.”
South West Water provides efficiency visits all-year round, giving support to businesses to help reduce their water usage.
