Combe Martin

Reducing reliance on storm overflows

Project complete: Combe Martin wastewater improvements

We have now completed our wastewater improvement project in Combe Martin, designed to reduce reliance on storm overflows and support improved water quality in the local environment. The project focused on increasing wastewater storage and improving how the network performs during periods of heavy rainfall. This included installing a new wet well, alongside additional pipework and associated electrical and mechanical works to better manage flows within the system.

Storm overflows play an important role in protecting the wastewater network during heavy rainfall. Reducing how often they are needed helps protect rivers, the sea and local bathing waters.

To complete the project safely and efficiently, Glen Lyn Car Park was closed from Monday 2 February to Tuesday 31 March.

The benefits for Combe Martin

The completed project has delivered an additional 12,000 litres of storm storage capacity. This means more wastewater can now be treated, helping to reduce the likelihood of storm overflows operating.
