A message from us
In 2025, Ofwat identified areas where we were not fully meeting some of our statutory obligations. In response, we agreed a formal, legally binding Undertaking under Section 19 of the Water Industry Act 1991.
This undertaking sets out a clear programme of investment and improvements to address the issues raised and ensure we meet the standards expected of us.
We are fully committed to delivering these improvements for our customers, communities and the environment. Our focus is on strengthening performance, increasing transparency, and restoring the high standards of service that our customers and regulators rightly expect.
Our investment programme
We are investing £24 m of our own funds to deliver improvements across our wastewater network and the environment. This investment goes beyond our existing business plans and focuses on three key areas: storm overflows, nature recovery and sewer misuse.
Reducing the impact of storm overflows
We are committing £20m of our investment to accelerate works to reduce the number of spills from storm overflows, prioritising locations that are environmentally sensitive or important to local communities.
These improvements will bring forward planned activity to reduce spills to below 20 per overflow sooner, ensuring benefits for rivers, bathing waters and communities are delivered earlier.

Supporting nature recovery
We are investing £2 million through our Nature Recovery Fund to support local environmental organisations and communities in delivering measurable benefits for nature and water quality.
The fund will support nature-based solutions, improved river and bathing water quality, increased biodiversity, and community led projects, including volunteering, catchment management, rainwater harvesting, tree planting and other initiatives that help nature thrive.
Tackling sewer misuse
The remaining £2m is being used to support household and businesses to tackle sewer misuse and misconnections, helping to reduce preventable pollutions and ease pressure on the sewer network. This includes practical support, education and targeted action in higher risk areas, alongside exploring new technologies to prevent future issues.
Keeping customers informed
We are committed to being transparent about our progress. We will provide six-monthly updates for customers, setting out what we have delivered and what’s coming next.
Alongside this, we will produce a separate progress report for Ofwat, providing the detailed information required for regulatory oversight and assurance.
