Our investment
We’re carrying out essential upgrades to the water network in Woodbury as part of the East Devon Mains Replacement Project.
This investment will help improve the reliability and resilience of the local water network and secure water supplies for the future.
As part of the scheme, we’ll replace ageing water mains infrastructure along Globe Hill. Much of the existing network is made up of older pipes that are more prone to bursts and leaks. Installing new modern pipework will reduce the risk of future failures and improve long-term reliability for customers.
Why we’re doing this work
- Ageing water mains are more likely to burst or leak
- Replacing them will help reduce future interruptions to supply
- The work will reduce the need for reactive maintenance and emergency repairs
- Customers will benefit from a more reliable and resilient water network
What the work involves
The project includes the installation of new water mains using a combination of trenchless and traditional construction methods.
Where possible, we’ll use Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD), a trenchless technique that helps minimise excavation and surface disruption. In some locations, open-cut excavation will still be required due to the presence of other underground utilities and existing services.
Works will begin at the upper section of Globe Hill before progressing down towards the town.
We’ll reinstate affected surfaces as quickly as possible once works are completed.
Traffic management and access
To carry out the works safely, temporary traffic management will be required, including phased road closures along parts of Globe Hill and Broadway.
The works will be carefully phased to help minimise disruption, and we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
We’ll continue working closely with the local highways authority to ensure clear signage and diversion routes are in place throughout the project.
Access to homes and businesses will be maintained wherever possible. Where access may be temporarily affected, advance notice will be provided.
Benefits of the work
- Improved network resilience
- Reduced risk of bursts and interruptions
- Improved long-term reliability of supply
- Reduced future maintenance requirements
Project timeline
Work is due to start on 1 June 2026 and will take around seven weeks to complete.
