Exmouth

Major plans to upgrade the sewer infrastructure

Wastewater improvements in Exmouth

We are carrying out wastewater improvement work in Exmouth and surrounding areas to help reduce the use of storm overflows and improve water quality in local rivers and beaches.
This work forms part of our wider Turning the Tide programme, which is focused on making long term improvements to the wastewater network in places where heavy rainfall and increasing demand put pressure on the system.

We remain dedicated to improving services in Exmouth. This page outlines current and future projects.

Our goal is to reduce storm overflow spills to improve water quality, targeting a maximum of ten spills per year per overflow by 2030, with only two spills at designated bathing waters during the bathing season.

Reducing our reliance on storm overflows

We are working on a number of projects across Exmouth to better understand why storm overflows are used and to identify the most effective ways to reduce their use.

As investigations continue, plans may evolve. Delivery timescales can also be affected by factors such as planning applications and approvals. Because of this, the overall completion date has moved from the end of 2028 to summer 2029.
