We’re pleased to confirm that the first phase of our latest sewer improvement works in Stithians has now been completed.
What we’ve done
Our teams identified a number of structural issues along a 65-metre section of sewer, including a collapsed section of pipe.
To address these issues, we excavated and replaced the affected section with a new 300mm pipe.
We also carried out a range of additional work to improve the condition and reliability of the network, including:
- Replacing the existing 225mm asbestos cement pipe with a new 300mm plastic pipe.
- Cleaning the sewer to remove accumulated debris.
- Completing a full CCTV survey to check the condition of the pipeline.
- Reinstating the manholes with new cover slabs and accessible covers.
The work has improved this section of the sewer network and will help support its ongoing operation.
Site security
On 19 August, the site was broken into and several items of equipment were stolen. The incident is being investigated by the police.
We responded by putting additional security measures in place to help protect the site and our contractors' equipment. Despite the incident, the works remained on schedule and were completed without delay.
What happens next?
Planning is now underway for the next phase of improvements, which will involve replacing further sections of pipework along Foundry Road.
We’ll provide further information as these plans are developed and confirmed, including details of when the next phase of work is expected to take place.

Customer update - 25 August 2026
We would like to make customers and local villagers aware that you may notice increased security at our Stithians site following a recent break-in on 19/08/2026.
The incident is currently being investigated by the police, and additional security measures are being put in place at our site while the investigation is ongoing.
There may be a delay to the ongoing works as multiple items of our equipment was stolen.
We appreciate your understanding.
Customer update – 19 August 2026
South West Water has now completed all the necessary preparatory and planning work in order to progress the network upgrades at Foundry.
Following extensive CCTV pipework investigations throughout Stithians and the surrounding catchment, we are returning to the village this week to start the next phase of work in Foundry. We will be replacing a large section of the sewer network and connected pipework to improve resilience and capacity in the network. We hope to keep any disruption to the community to a minimum.
