Tap water is precious - why use more than you need?
Come rain or shine, saving water makes sense. By being water smart you can save money off your water bill and help protect the environment. The average person in our region uses 143 litres of water in a day, by the end of 2025 we want to get that down to 128 litres. We need everyone to play their part – small changes in water use make a big difference when multiplied by our 1.8 million customers. If every one of our customers saved 5 litres of tap water a day, that would save nearly 10 million litres. From quicker showers, changes in flushing habits to being smarter with water in the garden - whatever your lifestyle there’s lots of simple things you can do to save water.
It's about the environment...
Water is a finite resource and it is both costly and energy-intensive to collect, treat and distribute it, especially in a hilly and dispersed region such as ours. Summers are predicted to get drier and winters wetter, with more intense heavy rainfall. Now more than ever, we need to do everything we can to help nature out. Every litre of water saved is a litre left in the environment. The less water we use, the more we can keep our rivers and streams flowing and nature thriving.
And it's about you...
Over 80% of our customers are on a water meter. If you're on meter, taking control of your water use can make a big difference to the amount you pay. Simply turning off the tap when brushing your teeth can save up to £46 a year, per person.
