St Mabyn

Chapelfields development

Customer drop-in event 19th June

Thank you to those that attended our drop-in event on Thursday 19 June at St Mabyn Peace Memorial Hall.

At the event, we discussed the current progress on the drainage improvement works to accommodate the Chapelfields development in St Mabyn.

We recognise our mistake in calculating that the existing facilities could receive additional flows from the Chapelfields development. We apologise for this error and any inconvenience or unpleasantness experienced by the local community as a result.

There were some questions raised by the community that could not be answered at the event. We have prepared the responses below. These are grouped into the following sections:

  1. Wadebridge Road Waste Water Treatment Works (WWTW)
  2. Tankering
  3. St Mabyn WWTW
  4. Communication
  5. Other issues

Questions and answers

There are two important points that we need to highlight:

  • The permit application we have submitted would enable us to serve the Chapelfields development only. If approved, it will allow us to end the current tankering and associated disruption. The footprint of the existing site would not change.
  • SWW has a duty to account for proportionate future development in any upgrade and so we have accounted for this in calculating its capacity. This means that smaller developments in the area may be suitable for connection, whereas significant future development requests, equivalent to Chapelfields, would not be suitable to be directed to Wadebridge Road WWTW due to capacity limitations. We would direct developers to alternative options for treatment.
