Strategic Resource Options

Our flagship projects to secure water resources for the future

We’re working with other water companies in the region as part of West Country Water and Environment (WCWE)  on a range of projects called Strategic Resource Options (SROs).

The current water resources situation in the West Country is set to become more challenging for both water users and the environment. We’re working with partners and stakeholders to develop new sources to secure water availability sustainably within our region.

To support the progression of SROs, the Regulatory Alliance for Progressing Infrastructure Development (RAPID) has been established by Ofwat to help accelerate the development of new water infrastructure. RAPID seeks to improve regulation and remove barriers to help the water sector respond to long-term water resources challenges. RAPID comprises of representatives from Ofwat, the Environment Agency and the Drinking Water Inspectorate.

Development funding is available to us and the other water companies who are progressing strategic solutions through RAPID.

We’re following the RAPID process to progress three flagship projects, that will ensure essential water supplies are secured in the future while protecting and enhancing the environment.

These are:

  • Cheddar Reservoir and Transfer SRO
  • Poole Water Recycling and Transfer SRO
  • Mendip Quarries SRO

You can find out more information about the projects here.
