Cornwall Water Mains Replacement Project

Our investment

We're investing in essential upgrades to the water network across Cornwall as part of the Cornwall Mains Replacement Project.

The project includes the installation of approximately 50km of new water mains across seven District Metered Areas including Zennor, Jacobstow and Wheal Rose. Much of the existing network was installed many decades ago and has a history of leaks, bursts and ongoing maintenance issues.

By replacing these older assets, we're helping to reduce leakage, improve reliability and provide a more resilient water network for local communities. This investment will help ensure the network is better equipped to meet future demand, while continuing to provide a reliable supply of drinking water to customers.

What the work involves

We'll be installing new water mains at locations across Cornwall to replace ageing infrastructure and improve the performance of the local network.

To minimise disruption wherever possible, we'll use a combination of construction techniques, including trenchless methods such as directional drilling and pipe bursting, alongside traditional excavation where required. All affected areas will be reinstated following completion of the works.

This investment will help reduce the number of leaks and bursts on the network, improving reliability for customers and reducing the need for reactive repairs.

By upgrading ageing infrastructure, we're creating a more resilient water network that can continue to support local communities, while also reducing water lost through leakage and helping to protect the environment.

 

Project timeline

This project is expected to start in October 2026 and finish in the summer 2027.
